According to the filing with the Attorney General of Maine, the Ohio Lottery data breach was reported after it was targeted in a recent cybersecurity attack.

On December 24, 2023, the Ohio Lottery noticed suspicious activity in its systems. The company quickly secured its systems and started an investigation with third-party cybersecurity experts.

By April 5, 2024, the Ohio lottery data breach investigation revealed that 538,959 people’s information was compromised. The leaked information included names and Social Security numbers.

On May 8, 2024, the Ohio Lottery issued data breach notification letters to the individuals impacted by this security incident.
