August 29 – The data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C. are investigating the USAA data breach that was reported after the company was targeted in a recent cyber security attack. It is believed to have impacted as many as 32,276 individuals. The USAA data breach resulted in the below information of certain individuals being compromised:

  • names,
  • addresses,
  • email addresses,
  • dates of birth,
  • Social Security numbers,
  • driver’s license numbers,
  • passport numbers,
  • vehicle identification numbers,
  • loan numbers,
  • health information,
  • and property and casualty insurance policy information

What Happened?

According to the Attorney General of Maine, the USAA data breach was reported after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. On April 30, 2024, the company learned about a system error that occurred during a “routine update” which caused customers’ documents to be accessible by an unauthorized party. USAA removed the documents and launched an investigation and on July 31, 2024, confirmed that some customers’ confidential information was compromised. USAA reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. On August 27, 2024, USAA sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
