July 25 – The Athene Annuity and Life Company data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Pension Benefit Information. The Athene Annuity and Life Company data breach resulted in the names and Social Security numbers of certain individuals being compromised. It is believed to have impacted as many as 70,412 individuals.
According to the Attorney General of Maine, Athene Annuity and Life Company reported a data breach after they were affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Pension Benefit Information attack. PBI provides audit and address research services for Athene which requires Athene to provide PBI with confidential information about its customers. PBI uses the MOVEit file sharing program developed by Progress Software. On May 31, 2023, Progress Software disclosed a vulnerability in MOVEit that had been exploited by an unauthorized third party. PBI launched an investigation and confirmed that an unauthorized party accessed PBI’s MOVEit servers on May 29, 2023 and May 30, 2023, and downloaded data, including some data pertaining to Athene customers. Pension Benefit Information may send out data breach letters on behalf of Athene Annuity and Life Company to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
