Franklin Templeton Investments Data Breach Alert

May 25 – Console & Associates, P.C. data breach lawyers are investigating the Franklin Templeton Investments Corporation (“Franklin Templeton Canada”) data breach reported on May 23, 2023.

What Happened and What Information Was Involved?

According to the Maine Attorney General, Franklin Templeton Investments reported a data breach after a third party cyber security attack at InvestorCOM who delivers certain documents for them. The attack was due to a vulnerability in the GoAnywhere managed file transfer service developed by Fortra, LLC.

Franklin Templeton Investments were notified of the data breach by InvestorCOM on April 4, 2023 after they confirmed the breach on March 22, 2023. This prompted Franklin Templeton Investments to begin their own investigation. They were able to confirm that the company’s systems were not breached and the breach was limited to the information that was provided to InvestorCOM.

As a result of the data breach, the names, addresses and Franklin Templeton Investments account numbers of as many as 89,000 individuals were compromised. On May 23, 2023, Franklin Templeton Investments Corporation sent out data breach notification letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the data breach.
