June 23 – The Genworth Financial data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at PBI Research Services. The Genworth Financial data breach resulted in the names, Social Security numbers and other personal information of certain individuals being compromised. It is believed to have impacted as many as 2,500,000 individuals.
According to the Securities and Exchange Commission, Genworth Financial reported a data breach after they were affected by a recent cyber security attack at PBI Research Services. The company used PBI to verify the death of certain policyholders, and was included among the many companies that were affected by the MOVEit file transfer data breach developed by Progress Software. Due to a zero-day vulnerability, an unauthorized party was able to access confidential information. Progress Software discovered the vulnerability on May 31, 2023 and released a patch shortly after. On June 22, 2023, Genworth Financial began sending out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
