According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights, the Liberty Hospital data breach was reported after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. On December 19, 2023, the hospital discovered suspicious activity within its computer network prompting them to shut down its network and launch an investigation. It was confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access its network between December 18, 2023 and December 19, 2023, and that the unauthorized actor may have accessed or stolen information on the company’s IT network. On February 8, 2024, Liberty Hospital sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
Liberty Hospital is a non-profit hospital that provides care through a network of 22 urgent care centers, primary care providers, 
physical therapy centers, specialty clinics, and breast cancer centers. Some of Liberty Hospital’s facilities include Advanced Spine & Brain Center, Orthopaedics with MU Health Care Physicians, Norterre Therapy Services, Primary Care Excelsior Springs Clinic, Primary Care Kearney Clinic, Primary Care Liberty Clinic and Primary Care Plattsburg Clinic.
