July 22 – The National Student Clearinghouse (“NSC”) data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Progress Software. The National Student Clearinghouse data breach resulted in the sensitive information of certain students at various colleges and universities being compromised.
According to a notice posted on their website, National Student Clearinghouse reported a data breach after they were affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Progress Software. NSC uses the MOVEit file transfer program created by Progress Software. On May 31, 2023, Progress Software announced a zero-day vulnerability within MOVEit that allowed hackers to access information stored on various organizations’ MOVEit servers, including NSC’s.
The National Student Clearinghouse launched an investigation and determined that an unauthorized party obtained certain files transferred through NSC’s MOVEit environment, including files containing data that NSC maintains on behalf of certain colleges. The following colleges were recently notified by NSC that their students’ data was among that which was compromised:
Lake Sumter Community College,
Olympic College, and
The National Student Clearinghouse will send out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach once their investigation is completed.
