According to the Attorney General of Montana, the Parathon data breach was reported after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. On July 27, 2023, Parathon learned that it was the target of a ransomware attack when an unauthorized party attempted to access its computer network and demanded a ransom. The company secured its network and launched an investigation that determined that certain consumer information may have been accessed by an unauthorized party. On December 22, 2023, Parathon sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach. It appears that NorthShore University Health System was one of the healthcare systems that was affected by the Parathon data breach as they were mentioned in the data breach letter. It should be noted that NorthShore University Health System network and systems were not affected by this data breach. Rather, Parathon is a third party vendor that provides them with services.
Parathon by JDA eHealth Systems is a healthcare software and support company based out of Naperville, Illinois. The company 
serves as a third-party denials management company that contracts with various health plans and providers to assist in challenging insurance denials and securing proper reimbursement to the entities and their patients for medical services. Parathon also provides other revenue cycle management services to its clients.
