What Happened As A Result Of The United Bank Data Breach?

According to the Attorney General of Massachusetts, United Bank reported a data breach after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. The incident involved the bank’s use of a third-party software tool that had been compromised. While the United Bank data breach letter doesn’t specifically state that the incident was related to the MOVEit vulnerability, the ransomware gang responsible for the MOVEit breach listed United Bank as one of its victims.

The bank launched an investigation into the incident with the assistance of third-party data security specialists and confirmed that an unauthorized party accessed certain customer data. On June 30, 2023, United Bank sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
