August 22 – The Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was targeted in a recent cyber security attack. The Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services data breach resulted in the confidential information of certain individuals being compromised. It is believed to have impacted as many as 423,824 individuals.
According to a notice posted on their website, the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services reported a data breach after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. The incident involved a “hacking/IT incident” targeting a network server. However, due to the limited amount of information available on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights data breach portal, it is unclear if the cyberattack was against Va. DMAS or one of the organization’s vendors.
The Department of Medical Assistance Services reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. On August 9, 2023, Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
