July 27 – The Willis Towers Watson data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Pension Benefits Information. The Willis Towers Watson data breach resulted in the names and Social Security numbers of certain individuals being compromised.
According to the Attorney General of Massachusetts, Willis Towers Watson reported a data breach after they were affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Pension Benefits Information. PBI provides audit and address research services for Willis Towers Watson. PBI also uses a secure MOVEit file transfer service, created by Progress Software. On May 31, 2023, Progress Software announced that MOVEit contained a critical vulnerability. This vulnerability allowed unauthorized parties to access the MOVEit servers of companies that use the software, including PBI. The company launched an investigation and confirmed an unauthorized actor was able to access certain files on its MOVEit server related to WTW customers. On July 20, 2023, PBI sent out data breach letters on behalf of Willis Towers Watson to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
