According to a notice posted on their website, Akumin reported a data breach after they were targeted in a recent ransomware attack. On October 11, 2023, Akumin detected suspicious activity within its computer network prompting them to secure their network, shut down some systems, and launch an investigation. The investigation confirmed that on October 11, 2023, an unauthorized party was able to access and acquire certain files on the company’s network. On November 15, 2023, Akumin confirmed that some of the affected files contained confidential patient information. On December 29, 2023, sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
Akumin Inc. is a healthcare services company based in Plantation, Florida that specializes in providing radiology services and works with over 1,000 hospitals and health systems in 48 states. Akumin contracts with more than 175 radiologists and operates more than 210 outpatient clinics.
