July 1 – The Brookfield Asset Management (“Brookfield”) data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was affected by a recent cyber security attack at The Vitality Group. The Brookfield data breach resulted in the names, Social Security numbers, and other personal information of certain individuals being compromised. At this time, it is unclear how many individuals were affected by the breach.
According to the Attorney General of California, Brookfield Asset Management reported a data breach after they were affected by a recent cyber security attack. The Vitality Group provides benefits-related services to Brookfield which requires Brookfield to provide Vitality with confidential information about its employees. Unfortunately, Vitality uses the MOVEit file-transfer software, a product of Progress Software, LLC, that experienced a recent vulnerability. On May 30, 2023, Progress discovered a critical vulnerability that allowed an unauthorized party to access information that was transferred using MOVEit. On June 1, 2023 the Vitality Group identified the vulnerability and launched an investigation.
On June 30, 2023, Vitality sent out data breach letters on behalf of Brookfield Asset Management to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach. It is important to note, the data breach did not affect Brookfield’s computer systems.
