August 30 – The Chevron Federal Credit Union (“CFCU”) data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was targeted in a recent cyber security attack. The Chevron Federal Credit Union data breach resulted in the names and financial account information of certain individuals being compromised. It is believed to have impacted as many as 90,536 individuals.
According to the Attorney General of Maine, Chevron Federal Credit Union reported a data breach after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. CFCU uses the MOVEit file-sharing application to securely move files which is a product of Progress Software. On May 31, 2023, Progress Software notified CFCU that MOVEit was discovered to contain a critical vulnerability. CFCU remediated the vulnerability and then launched an investigation.
CFCU was able to determine that an unauthorized party was able to decrypt and download some of the data in CFCU’s MOVEit application between May 30, 2023 and May 31, 2023. On August 24, 2023, Chevron Federal Credit Union sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
