The company reported this breach on January 19th, 2024, while citing a cyber attack from May 2023. The breach impacted as many as 132,000 people and included data such as Social Security numbers, personal identifiable information, financial account information, and medical information. 

What Happened?

According to CHRS’ filing with the Attorney General of Maine, the data breach originates from an attack that occurred from May 19 to May 21, 2023. The company identified unusual activity on its network and then secured its systems, hiring outside professionals to investigate the leak. On December 23, 2023, the investigation concluded and found that the hackers had stolen the sensitive information of more than 130,000 people.

On January 19th, Columbus Regional Healthcare System sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
