August 31 – The Continental Casualty Company (“CNA”) data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was targeted in a recent cyber security attack. The Continental Casualty Company data breach resulted in the names and Social Security numbers of certain individuals being compromised. It is believed to have impacted as many as 336,000 individuals.
According to the Attorney General of Maine, Continental Casualty Company reported a data breach after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. Pension Benefit Information provides audit and address research services for insurance companies, pension funds, and other organizations, including CNA. PBI also uses the MOVEit file-transfer application, created by Progress Software. On May 31, 2023, Progress Software announced a previously unknown vulnerability within MOVEit. This vulnerability allowed hackers to access the MOVEit servers of businesses, as well as the information stored therein. PBI launched an investigation and learned that an unauthorized party accessed the company’s MOVEit server between May 29, 2023 and May 30, 2023, and downloaded certain data. On August 25, 2023, Pension Benefit Information sent out data breach letters on behalf of Continental Casualty Company to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
