Posted On March 4, 2023 Consumer Privacy & Data Breaches
March 4, 2023 – Following a cybersecurity issue that resulted in the disclosure of private customer information, Veris Residential, Inc. filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Massachusetts on February 28, 2023. According to the company’s formal declaration, as a result of the occurrence, names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and financial account information of consumers were obtained by an uninvited party. Veris started sending data breach notification letters to everyone who was impacted by the recent data security issue as soon as it was confirmed that customer data had been exposed.
If you have been notified by Veris Residential that your information was leaked in the data breach, we at Console & Associates, P.C. suggest that you get in touch with our data breach lawyers as soon as possible. Free consultations are available to help you determine your next course of action, protect yourself, and see whether you can pursue a data breach lawsuit against Veris for financial compensation.
Jersey City, New Jersey-based Veris Residential, Inc. is a real estate investment company. The firm holds 71 properties, including 42 offices, 21 apartment buildings, four parking and retail establishments, and three hotels. The most prominent investments are Marabella Apartments in Jersey City, New Jersey, 101 Hudson Street in New York, New York, and Harborside on the Hudson Waterfront in Jersey City, New Jersey. Veris Residential has a workforce of over 234 individuals and makes a yearly revenue of about $329 million.
Veris Residential’s report to the Massachusetts Attorney General contains all the information that is currently known about the breach. Companies aren’t able to reveal too much information about a breach, though, due to Massachusetts’ data breach reporting requirements. Veris has not yet published a press statement or a notice about the latest occurrence on its website. Consequently, at this moment, all we know is that Veris recently identified a potential cybersecurity problem and was able to confirm, after further investigation, that a third party was able to access several files containing sensitive customer information.
Veris Residential started looking through the impacted files as soon as it was discovered that private consumer information had been made accessible to an unauthorized party. Consumers’ names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and financial account information might all have been compromised, though the specifics vary by individual.
On February 28, 2023, Veris Residential sent data breach letters to all individuals affected by the leak.
It is the responsibility of the business to make sure that information is secure when organizations like Veris Residential handle such sensitive consumer information. They serve as both the first and last line of defense against hackers who want to access that data for their own illegal ends, such as theft or even selling the data. If Veris is found to have been negligent in any way, the victims of the breach may be able to sue the business for any monetary losses brought on by the disclosure.
