October 31 – The CCleaner data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was targeted in a recent cyber security attack. The data breach resulted in the names, contact information and information about the products they purchased from Gen Digital of certain individuals being compromised.
According to an article posted on Teiss, Gen Digital reported a data breach occurred at CCleaner after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. The CCleaner data breach was only recently announced; however, Gen Digital’s emails to consumers (which users have since posted on the social media platform “X”) provide some information about what happened. CCleaner uses the MOVEit file-transfer software that contained a critical vulnerability that allowed unauthorized actors to access companies’ 
MOVEit servers. When CCleaner learned about the MOVEit vulnerability, it launched an investigation which confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access certain information belonging to consumers through the CCleaner MOVEit server. On October 25, 2023, Gen Digital sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
Gen Digital is a software company with headquarters in Tempe, Arizona and Prague, Czech Republic that was previously known as NortonLifeLock, but changed its name in 2022 after its merger with Avast. Gen Digital specializes in creating cybersecurity software. Some of the company’s brands include Norton, Avast, LifeLock, Avira, AVG, ReputationDefender, and CCleaner.
