October 26 – The Dollar Energy Fund, Inc. (“DEF”) data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was targeted in a recent cyber security attack. The Dollar Energy Fund data breach resulted in the names and Social Security numbers of certain individuals being compromised. It is believed to have impacted as many as 28,539 individuals.
According to the Attorney General of Maine, Dollar Energy Fund reported a data breach after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. On February 5, 2023, DEF learned that it had experienced a network disruption. The organization launched an investigation and confirmed that its network was accessed by an unauthorized party between January 31, 2023 and February 5, 2023. DEF later determined that some of the files that were accessible to the unauthorized party contained confidential consumer information. On September 28, 2023, Dollar Energy Fund started 
sending out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
Dollar Energy Fund, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization that serves lower-income families by providing them with utility assistance grants and other services. The organization partners with utility companies, which pay the organization’s administrative costs, so 100 percent of all donations are used for utility assistance grants.
