Okta Data Breach 2023

November 30 – The Okta data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was targeted in a recent cyber security attack. The Okta data breach resulted in the full names and email addresses, phone numbers, usernames and details of some employees’ roles of certain individuals being compromised.

What Happened?

According to a CBS news article, Okta reported a data breach after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. Around October 20, 2023, Okta learned that hackers were able to use stolen credentials to access Okta’s support case management system. It seems the username and password for a service account stored on the system had been saved to an employee’s personal Google account. The employee signed in to their personal account on the Chrome web browser from their Okta laptop. Thus, Okta believes that the hacker was able to gain access to the employee’s personal account, which provided the hacker with access to Okta’s support case management system. The company estimated that just 1 percent of customers were affected. After conducting further investigations, they were able to confirm that the hackers were able to access the names and email addresses of all customers, including Okta Workforce Identity Cloud and Customer Identity Data Breach AlertSolution customers. Okta will need to send out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
