October 23 – The Wescom Credit Union data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was targeted in a recent cyber security attack. The Wescom Credit Union data breach resulted in the names and Social Security numbers of certain individuals being compromised. It is believed to have impacted as many as 34,515 individuals.
According to the Attorney General of Maine, Wescom Credit Union reported a data breach after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. On May 19, 2023, Wescom learned that Barracuda Network, a company that provides security and data protection services to Wescom, announced a widespread vulnerability in its ESG appliance. As a result, unauthorized parties were able to access Barracuda’s ESG appliance dating back to October 2022. On May 30, 2023, Barracuda Network confirmed that Wescom data was affected. The company removed the ESG appliance and 
launched an investigation which determined that the ESG had been accessed by an unauthorized party between October 30, 2022 and May 30, 2023. On October 20, 2023, Wescom Credit Union sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
