According to the Attorney General of Montana, the DentalXChange data breach was reported after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. On or around August 11, 2023, DentalXChange learned of unauthorized activity in a user account for an associated dental practice. The company secured its systems and launched an investigation that determined that an unauthorized party could have accessed certain files containing confidential patient information, although it could not confirm what, if any, files the unauthorized party actually accessed. On January 2, 2024, DentalXChange sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
DentalXChange is a business services company based out of Irvine, California that created a dental payment platform that streamlines the claims process, enabling dental care practitioners to more 
easily submit claims and receive payment for services rendered. DentalXChange is used by 107k providers and processes over 71 million claims per year.
