October 6 – The Emerald Financial Services, LLC data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was affected by a recent cyber security attack at Fidelity National Information Services, Inc. The Emerald Financial Services data breach resulted in the names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, email addresses, phone numbers, and credit card information of certain individuals being compromised. It is believed to have impacted as many as 793,626 cardholders.
According to the Attorney General of Montana, Emerald Financial Services reported a data breach after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. Emerald Financial Services is a subsidiary of H&R Block. H&R Block issues cards under the “Emerald Card” name and these cards are issued by Pathward, N.A. Once issued, these cards are serviced by the third-party vendor, Fidelity National Information Services, Inc. (“Fidelity”). Recently, Emerald Card learned that the Fidelity experienced a data breach related to its use of the MOVEit file transfer program. Back in May 2023, Progress Software, the creator of MOVEit, announced a critical vulnerability that allowed hackers to access information stored on companies’ MOVEit servers, including the server belonging to Fidelity that services Emerald Cards. As a result, Emerald Card holders’ personal information was compromised. On October 4, 2023, Emerald Financial Services sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
Emerald Financial Services, LLC is a subsidiary of H&R Block, a large accounting and tax-preparation company based in Kansas City, Missouri.
