July 28 – The Employee Retirement System of Rhode Island data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Pension Benefits Information. The Employee Retirement System of Rhode Island data breach resulted in the names, Social Security numbers, addresses, dates of birth and genders of certain individuals being compromised.
According to a notice posted on their website, the Employee Retirement System of Rhode Island reported a data breach after they were affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Pension Benefits Information. ERSRI oversees the retirement benefits of employees of the State of Rhode Island. TIAA is the Defined Contribution Plan vendor for ERSRI and relies on certain services from Pension Benefit Information, LLC (“PBI”). TIAA passes on confidential employee information provided to TIAA by ERSRI to allow PBI to perform these services.
PBI uses the MOVEit file transfer software, created by Progress Software. On May 31, 2023, Progress Software announced a vulnerability within MOVEit that allowed unauthorized actors to access information on MOVEit servers, including PBIs. Pension Benefit Information will send out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
