According to the Attorney General of Massachusetts, the Ernest Health data breach was reported after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. On February 1, 2024, the hospital was alerted to unusual activity within its computer network prompting them to secure their system and launch an investigation. It was confirmed that an unauthorized party gained access to its IT network between January 16, 2024 and February 4, 2024, including files containing confidential patient information. On March 30, 2024, Ernest Health sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach. The following hospitals owned by Ernest Health were reportedly affected by the breach:
