January 13 – The data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the ESO Solutions data breach that was reported after the company was targeted in a recent cyber security attack. It is believed to have impacted as many as 2,700,000 individuals. The ESO Solutions data breach resulted in the below information of certain individuals being compromised:

  • names,
  • phone numbers,
  • addresses,
  • sensitive personal information
  • and protected health information

What Happened?

According to the Attorney General of Maine, the ESO Solutions data breach was reported after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. On September 28, 2023, the company detected and stopped a ransomware attack after an unauthorized party was able to encrypt portions of the company’s computer network. ESO launched an investigation confirming that an unauthorized party was able to access portions of its computer system, including files containing confidential patient information. On December 12, 2023, ESO Solutions sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach. While ESO’s website notice doesn’t specifically mention that Social Security numbers were leaked, some of the company’s healthcare clients received letters from ESO indicating their SSNs were compromised. According to a HIPAA Journal article, the below providers were reportedly affected:

  • Ascension Providence Hospital in Waco
  • Mississippi Baptist Medical Center
  • CaroMont Health
  • Merit Health Biloxi
  • Merit Health River Oaks
  • ESO EMS Agency
  • Forrest General Hospital
  • Alaska Regional Hospital
  • Memorial Hospital at Gulfport
  • Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center
  • Providence Alaska Medical Center
  • Tallahassee Memorial
  • Manatee Memorial Hospital
  • Desert View Hospital
