July 24 – The Fidelity & Guaranty Life Insurance Company data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Pension Benefit Information. The Fidelity & Guaranty Life Insurance Company data breach resulted in the names and Social Security numbers of certain individuals being compromised. It is believed to have impacted as many as 87,300 individuals.
According to the Attorney General of Maine, Fidelity & Guaranty Life Insurance Company reported a data breach after they were affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Pension Benefit Information. F&G relies on the services of PBI to provide audit and address research services which requires F&G to provide PBI with confidential information about its customers. Pension Benefit Information uses the MOVEit file sharing program developed by Progress Software that suffered a vulnerability. On May 31, 2023, Progress Software disclosed a vulnerability in MOVEit that had been exploited by an unauthorized third party. PBI launched an investigation into the incident on behalf of F&G and confirmed that an unauthorized party accessed PBI’s MOVEit servers on May 29, 2023 and May 30, 2023, and downloaded data, including some confidential information belonging to F&G customers. On July 28, 2023, Pension Benefit Information sent out data breach letters on behalf of Fidelity & Guaranty Life Insurance Company to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
