What Happened?

According to FFS’ data breach letter, the data breach occurred on October 17th, 2023. On this date, a ransomware group attempted to access and freeze the companies’ information systems data. While First Financial Services’ reports indicate that the attack failed to freeze operations, an unknown number of users lost their sensitive information.

By November 28th, 2023, the company was able to determine that the breach had stolen information. Despite the letter describing the breach as limited, it named Social Security numbers and other personal information as part of the leak. On January 19th, First Financial Security data breach letters went out to affected consumers to inform them of their stolen data and offer identity protection services.
