June 20 – The FirstBank Puerto Rico data breach is being investigated by the data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C. The data breach was reported after the company was affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Mortgage Industry Advisory Corporation (“MIAC”). At this time, it is still unclear what data types were compromised and how many individuals were affected.
According to the Attorney General of Vermont, Mortgage Industry Advisory Corporation reported a data breach after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. MIAC discovered on April 6, 2023 that their IT network had been compromised. They launched an investigation and were able to determine that FirstBank Puerto Rico customer data stored on the MIAC’s computer system was accessed by an unauthorized party between April 5, 2023 and April 6, 2023. On June 8, 2023, MIAC sent out data breach letters on behalf of FirstBank Puerto Rico to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
