August 10 – The Global Atlantic Financial Group data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Pension Benefit Information, LLC. The Global Atlantic Financial Group data breach resulted in the names, Social Security numbers, policy numbers, dates of birth, genders, and addresses of certain individuals being compromised.
According to the Attorney General of Massachusetts and a notice posted on the company’s website, Global Atlantic Financial Group reported a data breach after they were affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Pension Benefit Information, LLC. PBI is a third-party vendor that Global Atlantic uses to satisfy applicable regulatory obligations to identify the deaths of insured persons that uses the MOVEit secure file transfer program. On May 31, 2023, Progress Software, the creator of MOVEit, announced a previously unknown vulnerability that allowed unauthorized parties to access companies’ MOVEit servers. PBI was among the companies affected by the MOVEit vulnerability.
PBI launched an investigation, confirming that unauthorized parties were able to access the PBI MOVEit server on May 29, 2023 and May 30, 2023. The unauthorized parties viewed and downloaded certain confidential data belonging to Global Atlantic customers. On August 8, 2023, data breach letters were sent out to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
