The HCA Healthcare data breach resulted in the names, addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, genders, patient service dates, locations and next appointment dates of certain individuals being compromised. It is believed to have impacted an estimated 11,000,000 individuals.
According to a notice posted on their website, HCA Healthcare reported a data breach after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. HCA recently learned that certain patient information was available through an online form. The company launched an investigation and determined that the incident involved the theft of information “from an external storage location exclusively used to automate the formatting of email messages.” Essentially, the information was used to create reminder emails to patients that they may want to schedule an appointment. HCA Healthcare will send out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
