January 25 – The data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the Hewlett Packard data breach that was reported after the company was targeted in a recent cyber security attack. The Hewlett Packard data breach may have resulted in the sensitive information of certain individuals being compromised.

What Happened?

According to their filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Hewlett Packard data breach was reported after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. On December 12, 2023, HPE was notified that an unauthorized actor, potentially affiliated with a nation-state, had gained access to the company’s cloud-based email environment. This prompted the company to contain the incident and terminate all unauthorized access. Hewlett Packard launched an investigation that is still ongoing, but explained that the incident likely involves previous unauthorized access, which dated back to June 2023. Hackers were able to exfiltrate data from a limited number of HPE SharePoint files as early as 2023. If Hewlett Packard confirms that sensitive consumer information was compromised, they will be required to send out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
