August 11 – The Hillsborough County data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Progress Software. The Hillsborough County data breach resulted in the first and last names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, home addresses, medical conditions and diagnoses, and disability codes of certain individuals being compromised. It is believed to have impacted as many as 70,636 individuals.
According to a notice posted on their website, Hillsborough County reported a data breach after they were affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Progress Software. On June 1, 2023, Hillsborough County was informed that the MOVEit file transfer application used by the County experienced a global data breach. Hillsborough County Cyber Security worked with the company that created MOVEit to install all necessary patches to eliminate future unauthorized access. On June 18, 2023, Hillsborough County Cyber Security determined that some files belonging to Hillsborough County may have been affected by the breach which contained confidential information belonging to certain residents and vendors. On July 26, 2023, Hillsborough County sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
