May 21 – Hitachi Energy (“Hitachi”) announced on its website on March 17, 2023, that sensitive employee data had been compromised due to a data breach affecting the Fortra GoAnywhere managed file transfer platform. Although the firm has not yet disclosed what data was exposed, Hitachi Energy started sending out data breach notification letters to anyone affected by the data breach as soon as it became clear that consumer data had been compromised.

After hearing about the Fortra ransomware attack, Hitachi took precautions to protect its infrastructure, severed ties with Fortra’s network, and enlisted the help of outside data security experts to determine whether any sensitive employee information was compromised.
According to Hitachi Energy’s internal investigation, hackers were successful in accessing the private information of some of the company’s employees. They launched a thorough investigation of the stolen files to ascertain what data had been exposed and how many consumers had been affected.
