July 18 – The Idaho State Board of Education data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after a few Idaho Colleges and Universities were affected by a recent cyber security attack at the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association (“TIAA”) and the National Student Clearinghouse (“NSC”). The Idaho State Board of Education data breach resulted in the full names, Social Security numbers, addresses and dates of birth of certain individuals being compromised.
According to a notice posted on their website, the Idaho State Board of Education reported a data breach after a few Idaho Colleges and Universities were affected by a recent cyber security attack at the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association (“TIAA”) and the National Student Clearinghouse (“NSC”). The Idaho Board of Education relies on TIAA to provide certain services related to employees and relies on NSC to provide enrollment and degree data on their students. TIAA and NSC require Idaho colleges and universities to provide the companies with information about students and employees.
The Idaho Board of Education recently learned that both TIAA and NSC experienced data breaches related to the companies’ use of the MOVEit file-sharing software due to a vulnerability in the program which was created by Progress Software. This vulnerability allowed an unauthorized party to access certain information contained within the organization’s MOVEit server. As a result, an investigation was started and is still ongoing. It appears the following colleges and universities were affected by the TIAA and NSC MOVEit breaches:
North Idaho College
Lewis-Clark State College
The University of Idaho
College of Western Idaho
Boise State University
College of Southern Idaho
Idaho State University
