July 29 – The Kennedy Krieger Institute data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Johns Hopkins University and the Johns Hopkins Health System Corporation (collectively “Johns Hopkins”). The Kennedy Krieger Institute data breach resulted in the names and Social Security numbers of certain individuals being compromised. It is believed to have impacted as many as 363,885 individuals.
According to the Attorney General of Maine, Kennedy Krieger Institute reported a data breach after they were affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Johns Hopkins University and the Johns Hopkins Health System Corporation (collectively “Johns Hopkins”). Johns Hopkins uses the MOVEit secure file transfer application created by Progress Software. On May 31, 2023, Progress Software notified Johns Hopkins that MOVEit contained a critical vulnerability that allowed unauthorized parties to access data that was transferred through MOVEit. Johns Hopkins disconnected its MOVEit server and launched an investigation and confirmed that an unauthorized party exploited the MOVEit vulnerability and accessed the Johns Hopkins network on May 29, 2023. On July 25, 2023, Johns Hopkins sent out data breach letters on behalf of Kennedy Krieger Institute to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
