According to the Attorney General of California, the MassMutual data breach was reported by the Newport Group after discovering a recent third-party cyber security attack at Infosys McCamish. Newport Group acts as a recordkeeper for non-qualified deferred compensation plans issued by MassMutual. The company uses the vendor Infosys McCamish. On November 2, 2023, Infosys learned that it was the target of a ransomware attack prompting them to inform Newport Group of the incident. Newport Group disconnected all Infosys McCamish systems and launched an investigation that confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access certain Newport Group information stored on Infosys McCamish systems. On March 22, 2024, Newport Group sent out data breach letters to MassMutual individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
