According to the Attorney General of Massachusetts, the National Amusements data breach was reported after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. On December 15, 2023, the company detected unusual activity within its computer network prompting them to secure their network and launch an investigation. It was confirmed that an unauthorized actor accessed its network between December 13, 2023 and December 15, 2023. It was also determined that the unauthorized actor may have viewed or stolen files containing confidential consumer information. On December 22, 2023, National Amusements sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
National Amusements, Inc. is a movie theater company based out of Norwood, Massachusetts that is also a controlling shareholder of Paramount Global (formerly Viacom CBS), a multinational 
media and entertainment company based out of New York, New York. National Amusements operates over 1,500 movie theaters in the United States, United Kingdom, and Latin America under various brands, including Showcase Cinemas, Multiplex Cinemas, and Cinema de Lux.
