According to the Attorney General of Massachusetts, the Newport Group data breach was reported after they were affected by a recent cyber security attack at Infosys McCamish which is a company that Newport Group uses to process transactions for non-qualified deferred compensation plans. On November 2, 2023, Infosys McCamish learned that it was the target of a ransomware attack. They informed Newport Group who immediately disconnected all Infosys McCamish systems. Infosys McCamish launched an investigation that confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access certain Newport Group information stored on Infosys McCamish systems. On February 16, 2024, Newport Group sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
Newport Group, Inc., a Walnut Creek, California-based financial services company, provides recordkeeping, plan administration, 
trust and custody, consulting, fiduciary consulting, and insurance products and services. In 2022, Newport merged with Ascensus, a Pennsylvania-based recordkeeping, third-party administrator, and government facilitator.
