July 24 – The Physicians Insurance A Mutual Company, its affiliate MedChoice Risk Retention Group, Inc., and its subsidiary Experix, LLC (collectively “Physicians Insurance”) data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was targeted in a recent cyber security attack. The Physicians Insurance data breach resulted in the names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, contact information, medical treatment information, and health insurance information of certain individuals being compromised.
According to the Attorney General of Montana and a notice posted on the company’s website, Physicians Insurance reported a data breach after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. On March 2, 2023, Physicians Insurance detected unauthorized access to an employee’s work email account. The company secured their systems and launched an investigation which confirmed that the unauthorized access was limited to a single employee’s email account, which occurred on May 2, 2023. While Physicians Insurance did not find any evidence that emails or attachments were downloaded by the unauthorized party, the company could not rule out unauthorized access. On July 18, 2023, Physicians Insurance sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
