July 19 – The PlainsCapital Bank data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Progress Software. The PlainsCapital Bank data breach resulted in the Social Security numbers and bank account numbers of certain individuals being compromised.
According to the Attorney General of Montana and a notice posted on their website, PlainsCapital Bank reported a data breach after they were affected by a recent cyber security attack at Progress Software. On June 27, 2023, one of the bank’s third-party vendors confirmed it had been affected by the global cyberattack conducted against MOVEit file transfer software created by Progress Software. PlainsCapital Bank does not use MOVEit directly, the bank provides customer information to its vendor using the software. In May 2023, Progress Software announced a critical vulnerability within MOVEit which allowed hackers to access information stored on MOVEit servers. On July 14, 2023, PlainsCapital Bank sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
