August 5 – The Progressive Casualty Insurance Company (“Progressive”) data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was affected by a recent third party cyber security attack. The Progressive Casualty Insurance Company data breach resulted in the names, addresses, driver’s license numbers, email addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth and other confidential information of certain individuals being compromised. It is believed to have impacted as many as 347,100 individuals.
According to the Attorney General of Maine, Progressive Casualty Insurance Company reported a data breach after they were affected by a recent third party cyber security attack. Progressive relies on third-party vendors to provide call center services. On May 19, 2023, Progressive was informed about a potential data security incident by one of its vendors. The vendor’s employees improperly shared their Progressive access credentials with unauthorized individuals. This provided unauthorized parties with access to the confidential information of some Progressive customers. Progressive’s letter explains that “the earliest date of employment of any of the potentially involved employees by the third-party service provider was May 2021, but most were hired during or after the fall of 2022.” On August 1, 2023, Progressive Casualty Insurance Company sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
