According to the Attorney General of Massachusetts, the Prospect Medical Holdings data breach was reported after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack that affected members of certain Prudential Insurance Company of America (“Prudential”) health plans. One of Prospect Medical’s subsidiaries provides administrative services for healthcare providers that contract with Prudential Insurance. On August 1, 2023, the company detected unusual activity within its IT network prompting them to contain the incident by taking its systems offline and launching an investigation. It was confirmed that an unauthorized party accessed Prospect’s IT network between July 31, 2023 and August 3, 2023 where the unauthorized actor accessed and acquired files containing confidential information belonging to members of certain Prudential health plans. On September 29, 2023, Prospect notified Prudential of the data security incident. On November 28, 2023, Prospect Medical Holdings sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.

California, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Rhode Island, as well as a network of over 165 healthcare facilities.
