July 12 – The Rockland Trust Company (“Rockland Trust Bank”) data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was affected by a recent third party cyber security attack. The Rockland Trust Bank data breach resulted in the names, addresses, account numbers, email addresses, bill payment amounts, and the payees’ names and addresses of certain individuals being compromised. It is believed to have impacted as many as 14,806 individuals.
According to the Attorney General of Maine, Rockland Trust Bank reported a data breach after they were affected by a recent third party cyber security attack. Rockland Trust uses a third-party vendor to process their online banking bill pay transactions. The vendor uses the MOVEit file-transfer software, developed by Progress Software, which was discovered to have a vulnerability in May 2023. On June 13, 2023, the third-party vendor informed Rockland Trust that certain bank customers were affected by the data breach. It appears an unauthorized party was able to gain access between May 27, 2023 and May 31, 2023. On July 10, 2023, Rockland Trust Bank sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
