July 8 – The Shell data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was affected by a recent cyber security attack at Progress Software, LLC. The Shell data breach resulted in the sensitive information belonging to employees of BG Group, a company Shell acquired in 2016, being compromised.
According to a notice posted on their website, Shell reported a data breach after they were affected by a recent cyber security attack at Progress Software, LLC. Shell uses the MOVEit file transfer software created by Progress Software, which experienced a zero-day vulnerability in late May 2023. This vulnerability allowed an unauthorized party to access information contained within the MOVEit software. And because this was a zero-day vulnerability, hackers were able to exploit it before Progress could create a patch to resolve the issue. It is unclear if or when Shell will send out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
