July 27 – The Teachers Retirement System of Georgia (“TRS”) data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at PBI Research Services. The Teachers Retirement System of Georgia data breach resulted in the full names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, TRS identification numbers, and addresses of certain individuals being compromised.
According to a notice posted on their website, Teachers Retirement System of Georgia reported a data breach after they were affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at PBI Research Services. TRS uses PBI’s services to ensure accuracy in its payments to retirees and beneficiaries. PBI uses the MOVEit secure file transfer program. On May 31, 2023, Progress Software, the creator of MOVEit, announced a previously unknown vulnerability within MOVEit. This vulnerability allowed hackers to access information stored on MOVEit servers, including one belonging to PBI. The company launched an investigation and determined that those who received TRS benefit payments between March 1, 2023 and May 26, 2023 were affected by the breach. In early August, PBI will send out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident.
