According to the Attorney General of California, the TRISTAR Insurance Group data breach was reported after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. TRISTAR is a third-party insurance claims administrator, managing claims on behalf of insurance companies.
On November 10, 2022, the company detected suspicious activity within its computer network prompting them to launch an investigation. It was confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access the company’s email system starting on November 4, 2022, which they used to gain access to the TRISTAR network on November 9, 2022. TRISTAR also concluded that the unauthorized party removed certain confidential information from its computer network. On February 1, 2024, TRISTAR Insurance Group sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
TRISTAR Insurance Group is an independent third-party claims administrator based out of Long Beach, California that offers 
three types of services to its insurance company clients: property casualty claims management, benefits administration, and managed care services. The company manages claims for more than 350 alternatively funded entities in both the private and public insurance segments.
