According to the Attorney General of California, the UC San Diego Health data breach was reported after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. On January 9, 2024, the company learned that an unauthorized party had been able to access certain employee email accounts through a phishing attack. UC San Diego Health launched an investigation that confirmed that the unauthorized party was able to access multiple employee email accounts between January 9, 2024 and January 22, 2024. The unauthorized party was able to access confidential information stored within the affected email accounts. On March 8, 2024, UC San Diego Health sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
The UC San Diego Health System is a regional health system based out of San Diego, California that operates UC, San Diego Medical Center, Jacobs Medical Center, East Campus Medical Center, 
Moores Cancer Center, and Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center, as well as dozens of clinics in the San Diego area.
