September 21 – The United Healthcare Services, Inc (“UHS”) data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was targeted in a recent cyber security attack. The UHS data breach may have compromised the protected health information (“PHI”) of certain individuals. It is believed to have impacted as many as 315,000 individuals.
According to the UHS’s filing with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights, United Healthcare Services, Inc. reported a data breach after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. While the filing hasn’t provided much detail for now, it’s apparent that an unauthorized actor had access to the data of more than 300,000 people. Given the nature of the leak, it’s likely that this includes the PHI of affected individuals.
On September 7, 2023, United Healthcare Services notified the HHS-OCR of the breach. While the company has not yet stated that it’s sent data breach letters to victims, it’s normal for victims to receive personalized letters covering their compromised data shortly after these public notifications.
