October 11 – The University Federal Credit Union (“UFCU”) data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was targeted in a recent cyber security attack. The University Federal Credit Union data breach resulted in the names and financial account information of certain individuals being compromised. It is believed to have impacted as many as 102,650 individuals.
According to the Attorney General of Maine, University Federal Credit Union reported a data breach after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. UFCU uses the MOVEit secure file-transfer application. On May 31, 2023, University Federal Credit Union was notified by Progress Software, the creator of MOVEit, that the program contained a critical vulnerability allowing hackers to access data stored on MOVEit servers, including UFCU’s. UFCU launched an investigation and determined that an unauthorized party accessed and removed certain files containing confidential UFCU customer data that were stored on the MOVEit platform. At no time did hackers gain access to UFCU’s systems directly, as all compromised files were stored within MOVEit. On October 10, 2023, University Federal Credit Union sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
